Position Summary:

The SOI Foundation is looking for a Content Writer to join the communications team. Our ideal candidate is a well-rounded writer that is able to write for a variety of media including traditional, digital and print. You enjoy collaborating with a small team, have the ability to manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines, are self-motivated, and passionate about the Polar Regions, education, and youth engagement. 

The SOI Foundation’s hybrid workplace model combines both in-person collaboration and focused remote work. Due to the collaborative nature of this role, it will be primarily based out of the Gatineau office in Quebec.

* This is a full-time position. Work on weekends and some overtime hours may be required to support expeditions, events or other time-sensitive initiatives. 

Responsibilities:

  • Write press releases for upcoming expeditions and programs
  • Develop pre-expedition materials including Participant Orientation Handbook, Educator Handbook and Pre-learning Material.
  • Document expedition and program activities for use in publications, reports and media
  • Write post-expedition reports informing partners of the successes for each expedition, program or initiative 
  • Write branded materials such as brochures and newsletters
  • Write original copy and edit content for a range of marketing and communications materials
  • Develop presentations or speeches for the Operational Management team

 

Skills And Qualifications:

  • A degree in journalism, English or a relevant field
  • 5+ years of proven experience as a writer
  • Track record of writing 
  • Great communicator with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent proofreading skills
  • Bilingualism (English/French) an asset

 

Character Profile:

  • Self-starter demonstrating a strong capacity to work independently and collaboratively
  • Must demonstrate flexibility, initiative, good judgment, consideration and professionalism
  • Knowledge and experience of the Canadian Arctic and working with Indigenous communities is an asset
  • Adventurous; willing to participate in SOI’s expedition programming
  • Outgoing, positive attitude with excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to teamwork
