Canada’s Ocean Week 2023: Full Recap

Ocean Week Canada has officially wrapped up after another incredibly successful year. From June 2-11 organizations from across Canada came together to celebrate a week of events, learning, and engagement all focused on the ocean. The official list of activities can be found on the Ocean Week Canada website, or by clicking here

Running for the duration of Ocean Week, our C3 expedition documentary, which highlights the incredible 150 day, coast-to-coast-to-coast journey, was hosted on the official Ocean Week Canada website. The film was free to watch, encouraging as many people as possible to experience the connection Canada has to the ocean for themselves.

Then the swell of excitement really started to surge for our Blue Futures Pathways team who was nominated for the Water Canada Awards 2023 in the downstream category. The Water Canada Awards are hosted as part of the Canada Water Summit, which took place from June 7-9 in Ottawa. Awards in the Downstream category recognize a program or project driving great diversity in the water sector, and addressing the skills shortage. While we didn’t win, we’re incredibly proud to be considered as a finalist, and want to extend a huge congratulations to the winners, Water First

Our Blue Futures Pathways program continued to have a week full of incredible announcements and achievements with the release of a video that showcases the variety of ways to engage with and establish a career within the Sustainable Blue Economy. Featuring partners from our expedition season in 2022, this video highlights both traditional and outside-of-the-box ways to get involved.

Finally, to cap off an incredible week, our Blue Futures Pathways program was officially endorsed by the United Nations Ocean Decade as one of the new Decade Actions, hosted under the Early Career Ocean Professionals (ECOP) program! We’re incredibly proud to be officially endorsed by this UN initiative and can’t wait to continue to break waves in this emerging ocean sector.

Ocean Week Canada was an incredible way to start building excitement for our summer expedition season which is just around the corner! Youth and young professionals from across Canada will join us on multiple expeditions this summer, and you can follow along on the journey here. We can’t wait to get back out on the water and keep learning about the oceans around us!
