Position Summary
The SOI Foundation is looking for a Communications and Digital Content Coordinator to support communications and brand development for SOI’s projects and initiatives. Our ideal candidate enjoys collaborating with a small team, has the ability to manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines, is self-motivated, creative and passionate about the Polar Regions, education and youth engagement. This opportunity will expose the successful candidate to a wide array of communications platforms and outreach initiatives.

However, the successful candidate will be part of a small team who work to support diverse communications, marketing and media needs across the organization. There will be opportunities to learn more and gain experience to suit your interests and talents.
The position of Communications and Digital Content Coordinator is for a one-year contract starting in January 2022 and ending January 2023. The ideal candidate would be based in the Ottawa/Gatineau region and work 2 days a week at the SOI office in Gatineau, QC. Accommodations can be discussed for remote work. The Communications and Digital Content Coordinator reports to the Manager of Communications and Media Relations.
Hours: 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
* Work on weekends and some overtime hours may be required closer to and during the 2022 Expeditions. Please note, this position is for office/remote work in support of the expedition.
*This position is funded by Eco-Canada and as part of the funding requirements, the candidate must be under 30 years of age.
Key tasks and responsibilities
- Provide branding and communications support across departments and in support of SOI’s many programs and initiatives with a particular focus on social media strategy and content development.
- Help create content and engage on SOI’s social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn) to grow the Foundation’s network and support program outreach.
- Monitor and provide analytical reports on web, social media, earned media, and newsletters.
- Assist the Manager of Media and Communications with the development of media materials and outreach.
- Assist with the development of marketing and branding materials including graphics for web and social media, newsletters, printed materials, and swag.
- Coordinate the development of stories, photos and videos to promote SOI’s work and impact
- Support content development and promotion of SOI’s virtual engagement platform, The Bridge.
- Logistical and administrative support in the lead-up to expeditions.
Skills and Qualifications
- A degree, diploma, or certificate in communications, journalism, marketing, social media or a related field.
- Exceptional oral and written communications skills and a high level of creativity and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to develop a broad range of marketing communications content from concept to completion including but not limited to: communications strategies, print publications, social media, and web content development.
- Strong time management skills required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Excel, Word and PPT is an asset
- Experience using Adobe CC programs (Lightroom/ Illustrator/
InDesign, Photoshop) is an asset - Experience using Canva, WordPress, Meltwater and Emma is an
asset - Experience with photo and video production is an asset
- Bilingualism (spoken and written) is preferred

- Knowledge of, and experience with, the Canadian Arctic and Indigenous
culture an asset. - An alum of the SOI Foundation is an asset.
- Outgoing, positive attitude with excellent interpersonal skills and a
commitment to teamwork.
