Staff and students watching the surprise Twin Flames performance.
Saavittut students spent the morning talking about the effects of trauma and grief, and ways to heal through a hands-on sea glass jewelry making exercise. They also worked in groups on discussing community issues, stereotypes and how to be good ambassadors for their homelands.
The students then got to spend time at a local park playing games and enjoying a splash pad and then were treated to a surprise afternoon concert by SOI alumni, Chelsey June and Jaaji from the Twin Flames!

Later on, students went on Ottawa walk abouts exploring sights such as Nepean Point, Parliament Hill, the National Art Gallery, and more! Meanwhile, most of our SOI staff team participated in an expedition briefing and got to know one another through ice breakers and team meetings.

Meanwhile, we welcomed two students who traveled to Ottawa from the UK and Ireland!

We would like to thank the Nunavut Sivuniksavut team who graciously welcomed the SOI participants and helped in educating our Inuit youth to step into their roles as ambassadors for their home communities. A big thank you goes to Baffinland for sponsoring Saavittut and helping to make this wonderful program possible.
